Nose Hill Park

The famous Bowmont Park and Nose Hill Park are located in Northwest Calgary. Here are a few more things to do in this vibrant community

Bowmont Park

On the northern bank of the Bow River, Bowmont Park is one of the city’s largest and most diverse parks. It includes grasslands, valleys, a waterfall, off-leash dog-walking areas, and hiking and cycling trails.

The park and botanical garden are both free to enter.

Nose Hill Park

One of the largest off-leash parks in North America, Nose Hill Park is truly a place to relax and escape the city. Not all areas are off-leash, but overall, your dog is free to run on the main paths and small trails.

Due to its size, Nose Hill Park is home to many animals and wildlife, such as coyotes and white-tailed deer.

Cambrian Heights Park

Located just south of Nose Hill Park, Cambrian Heights has a dedicated off-leash dog area. It is a small park, but frequented often by those in the area.

Sue Higgins Park

Located on the Bow River banks in the Southeastern part of the city, Sue Higgins Park is Calgary’s largest fenced off-leash dog park.

This park has everything your dog could need and more. There are open fields for running and playing fetch, weave poles for training, shady trees, popular trails, and private spots. For dogs who like to swim, there are four access points to the Bow River with both shallow and deep water.

Fort Calgary

Located just east of downtown, Fort Calgary is worth visiting as it is a historic landmark that tells the story of those who developed the surrounding area. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash while inside the grounds and cannot enter any of the buildings.

East Village Playground

This playground has a small off-leash dog park next to the children’s playground. You can also walk along the river with your dog on a leash.

Jim Davidson Bark & Play

Located in the southern community of Auburn Bay, this dog park has ten acres of fully fenced off-leash space. Two designated training areas, a digging pit, and posted interpretive signs make it perfect for young puppies.

Connaught Off-Leash Dog Park

This fully fenced off-leash dog park is located in Calgary’s Beltline district and is perfect for city dwellers. At less than half the size of a block, it is the smallest park on this list, but great for those who can’t escape the city in search of a larger suburban park.

Elliston Park

Elliston Park is a relaxed space with playgrounds, a rose garden, and a pond in the middle. A third of the space is an off-leash dog area. It is perfect for those who like open areas and forested pathways.
